In Search of a Seamless Transformation
Most of the information we need is digitalized and is available through the cloud. We often equip ourselves with two or more mobile devices to access this information.
Were there a device that fits all our needs, at least life would be easier from being bothered by so many needed devices. Our concern, therefore, lies in the flexibility within a computing device that addresses various situations; one does not require us to change user behavior.

User-inspired
We experimented with several possible designs, and found that the double-sided display worked best. Our design process included careful consideration of notebook and tablet users’ feedback and usage behaviors.
It is this double-sided display that exempts user from folding or twisting the display — we open it up as a notebook; and we close it for a tablet. It is a simple, intuitive way for users to switch between modes without learning another set of usage.

Moreover, in order to make a smooth physical transition between modes, we set strict manufacturing standards on the parts such as the hinge and their arrangement as well as weight balance. After extensive research in human factors engineering and ergonomics, we adopted a 16-level ambient light sensor to detect the illumination intensity and automatically adjust the screen brightness for users.

The Stylish Design
Taking after the lines of the ASUS ZENBOOK™, the ASUS TAICHI™ has a larger front fascia. The black-and-silver color combination makes the TAICHI look as thin and light as the ZENBOOK. Actually the TAICHI is only 3mm at its thinnest point. We also added a metal layer between the double displays to improve structural rigidity; while the hinge design also enhances heat dissipation.

When we are using a laptop, it is difficult to share the information on the display with people sitting opposite from us. With TAICHI, this is no longer a problem with the Screen Share application, so that you can utilize the double displays. That is to say, with a simple move, you can share the information easily. The hardware and software designs of TAICHI aim at improving the user experience by making things easier. We absorb from the experience of user observation, and provide the user with a brand new experience.
