Extending the Mobile Experience
Is it possible to expand on the mobile user experience so that it goes beyond the limitations of a smartphone display?
In a bid to craft the perfect mobile experience, ASUS Design Center focused on the “N+1” design principle. “N” stands for the collective functions of a product; and “+1” is the added convenience delivered
by the product.
PadFone 2 is a perfect combination of a smartphone and a tablet. It allows users to enjoy the advantages of both a 4.7-inch phone and a 10.1-inch tablet, with a smooth transition when switching from one mode to the other.
ASUS aims to make the user experience more intuitive and convenient. With PadFone 2, our team once again challenged itself with a whole new set of principles in order to come up with a simpler, more integrated design.
The biggest change from the original PadFone is the new way of inserting the smartphone into the tablet Station. PadFone 2 simplifies the union of the phone and the Station by removing the lid, allowing the phone to be easily slid into the dock. Inspired by the braking system of racing bikes, we found a durable carbon rubber additive used in the tires and this was subsequently used in the PadFone 2’s construction. The use of this material increased the sliding slot’s durability; it also ensured a snug fit for the smartphone.
Lighter & Thinner
With an eye on improving efficiency and ergonomics, the new PadFone 2 design is 25% lighter than the original PadFone.
This weight reduction can be attributed to the use of a forged magnesium-aluminum alloy and a new structural design that integrates the micro sub, HDMI, and the antenna into a single cable. The positioning of the built-in antenna significantly reduces signal interference when the user is making calls for improved clarity and less dropped calls. The smartphone slot is situated in the middle of the Station to maintain its center of gravity.
The result of this attention to detail is an elegant,
Smooth, Seamless Switching
The patented DynamicDisplay design provides a smooth transition when users switch between smartphone and tablet modes. In order to achieve this, minor adjustments had to be made on both the smartphone and tablet interface.
The exclusive SuperNote App incorporates handwriting technology with 32GB of cloud storage. Users no longer need to worry about limited online space; they can easily access, upload, backup or share files. In addition, the Info bar easily switches between applications and clearly reflects the battery status.
PadFone 2 features SonicMaster technology with a laptop-class high definition speaker. It has been fine-tuned by the ASUS Golden Ear team, and produces less interference and mechanical resonance. This gives users clearer audio across the frequency range.
